Come out and meet other RPCVs for a tour of Stranahan House and Happy Hour at the Cheesecake Factory immediately after.

The Stranahan House is the oldest house in Ft. Lauderdale.  Built in 1901 by Frank Stranahan, it has served as a trading post, a residence, and a restaurant.   Frank and Ivy Stranahan are considered as the father and mother of Fort Lauderdale.  Ivy was the first school teacher in New River (what would later be named Fort Lauderdale).  Ivy also lived in Miami - visit the Stranahan House Museum to learn how Ivy knew Julia Tuttle and Mary Brickell.

We can all agree that Ivy Stranahan would have been a great Peace Corps Volunteer!

RPCVSF Member Chris Bigney (Costa Rica '74, Ecuador '74-'77) will provide a private tour for RPCVSF members at the reduced admission price of $10 per person.  We'll meet at 4:45 and the tour will begin at 5:00 pm.

Directions:  from I-95 go east on Broward Blvd. to US1 (Federal Highway), then go south but do not go through the tunnel and instead stay to the right of the tunnel.  Continue past the Sun Trust Bank parking lot and go through the light at Las Olas (to the right of the tunnel).  The Stranahan House is across the street from Cheesecake Factory.

Parking is at the Museum, or there is a garage on 6th Ave.  The lot at Suntrust Bank building opens for parking at 4:00 pm, and only charges $5 (and is a 3 minute walk to the Museum/Cheesecake Factory).  The Museum's phone number is (954) 524-4736, or visit the website at: http://www.stranahanhouse.org/

And, thanks to the organizing work of Ft. Lauderdale resident and RPCV Elizabeth Coomber (Mali '10-'12), we'll meet for HAPPY HOUR at Cheesecake Factory at 6:15 pm.  The address is 600 E. Las Olas Blvd., phone (954) 463-1999.
