NPCA hosts its 3rd Annual Conference: Peace Corps Connect - please plan to attend!  AND, Peace Corps is hosting a job fair for RPCVs on June 19 (just prior to the NPCA conference).

According to NPCA, the preliminary summary of events for the gathering in Nashville on June 20th and 21st is as follows:

Friday, June 20, 2014

Friday will focus mainly on small group sessions. A sampling of the Friday events are the Group Leaders Forum, Graduate Research Conference, Politics and the Peace Corps, Women in the Peace Corps, Peace Corps Prep, Board Emeritus, Advocacy, Storytelling as well as technology tutorials and space to meet up with member groups, old friends or NPCA staff and Board.

Note:  member groups needing space to meet should submit this PCCN 2014 Member Group Space Request Form, available in Word or as a PDF.

Saturday, June 21, 2014

Saturday will be an exciting program with TEDx-style talks from community members, award presentations, guest speakers, videos and entertainment. This program will take place in the brand new theater at the historic Country Music Hall of Fame in downtown Nashville. We will also be offering an opportunity for members of the community to nominate speakers for the TEDx – style talks. More information about that to come.

New in 2014!

Peace Corps Career Fair – In conjunction with Peace Corps Connect – Nashville, the Peace Corps Office of the Third Goal and Returned Volunteer Services will be hosting a career fair in Nashville on June 19, 2014. More details will be coming out shortly.

Kids Language Camp – In order to provide more options for those RPCVs with small children, there will be a language camp developed specifically for children of RPCVs attending Peace Corps Connect. This will provide an opportunity for parents to attend the conference while their children are exposed to the Spanish language through storytelling.

Dormitory Accommodation Option – Hotel accommodations in Nashville are hot (and we’re not talking about the weather)! While we were able to secure a room block at the Sheraton Nashville Downtown,  we felt a lower cost option might be helpful for our attendees as well. Therefore, we are in the process of reserving a block of dorm rooms on a local college campus (name being withheld until contracts are finalized) that will provide accommodations at about 1/3 the cost of a hotel room.

Saturday, June 21

Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum

Saturday features two of Nashville’s most famous downtown sites.  In the Hall of Fame’s new, state-of-the art theater, we’ll enjoy live entertainment, awards, videos, and TEDx-style presentations by RPCVs from around the USA.  Guest speakers include Peace Corps Director, Carrie Hessler-Radelet and Peace Corps Chief of Staff, Stacy Rhodes and a cameo visit from Emmylou Harris!  The keynote this year is Mike Tidwell, an RPCV climate-change activist.  Saturday will wrap-up with an NPCA reception followed by the TNRPCV Shindig where you’ll hear live music in one of Nashville’s oldest and most beloved bars.

Fly, drive, rent a bus and take a road trip… just come, y’all!   Be sure to reserve a dorm room on Vanderbilt’s Campus. It’s so cheap!   To register for PCC, reserve space, and get your dorm room, go here: http://www.peacecorpsconnect.org/annual-gathering/nashville-2014/
