Carlos and Sharon (RPCVs who served in Brazil) invite us to a gathering at their home. They are providing food, soft drinks and beer, a great collection of world music, and good company. There will be canoe and paddle boat rides available, and children are welcome.
The address is 9820 SW 152nd Terrace, Miami, FL.
Our hosts invite all who attend to briefly speak about their experience while living abroad as PCVs. A brief history lesson is welcome, as well as shared observations about conditions in the United States today as compared to your country of service. This is intended to be light-hearted, fun and above all civil. From Carlos and Sharon: "
Peace Corps volunteers tend to be independent thinkers and somewhat objective observers. Would it not be rewarding to hear what a RPCV had to say about what it was actually like politically, economically and socially in their host country and what conditions are like in those countries now.
What do RPCVs observe about the United States of America in this time? Where do they see this country going politically, economically and socially? Is there a comparison to what they experienced in their host country? We all watched the United States from afar and with the eyes of a foreigner while living away from home. What do those eyes see now in this country and in the world of today?"
At the end of the evening Carlos and Sharon will screen the film "Inequality for All" - featuring economist Robert Reich.
