The Hampton House is a former motel that catered to African-Americans during the Jim Crow era. When that era ended, the motel, together with the surrounding neighborhood, began to fall into disrepair and eventually closed in 1976. Avoiding demolition and thanks to the efforts of Dr. Enid Pinkney, the Hampton House was restored, beginning in 2015, and opened to the public as a museum and community center. As the only remaining “Green Book” property, the Hampton House is a valuable piece of Miami’s Black history. It is truly worth a visit.
Mark your calendars and join us for this interesting, informative event!
